“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”
James 1:17 NKJV
The place you stand now is not where you’ll always be. More is waiting for you.
Jesus wants to bring each of us to a new place, where we can find fulfillment and purpose. He is ready to clear up the shadows of our past to give us life, renewed.
To arrive at this place is not easy, but if you’re willing to make the choice to give your heart to Jesus, He will help you get there, all the while providing everlasting gifts.
In the past six years of being saved, I have learned that to come to the place intended for me, I can’t hold on to my old ways or habits. I have to be willing to repent, let go of my mistakes, and begin to think of my situation differently.
Through this daily process of renewal, there is Jesus, sending His love, comfort, peace, and knowledge.
The Gift of Love Is Waiting for You
First, Jesus wants to fill us with His Love, which is truly unfailing.
“The Lord Your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV
Jesus loves us so much that He gives us an open door to lay down our worries and our wrongs so we can start over. He supports us as we heal from our past, filling us up with His strength. He does not judge us; but rather, He helps us see a new vision of ourselves.
For so long, I couldn’t see past the mountain in front of me. I spent at least 10 years of my life changing every part of myself to cope with a panic disorder that was taking control of my life. I saw no possibility of my life renewed.
I lived every day tired, scared, and on the edge. I saw myself as someone unworthy of love.
This is definitely not the vision of Jesus, who put a plan in motion to meet me one day at a church service my son was involved in. When I gave my heart to Jesus that day, I walked out knowing everything was going to change.
I didn’t know how. I had built habits that I wasn’t willing to let go of just yet. I was also holding on to the hurt of events past and the fear of what was to come.
But because I felt His love, I knew I was no longer alone and that gave me the ability to be vulnerable with the Lord about my struggles. Having this new open relationship with Jesus, allowed me to let go of so many falsehoods I believed.
We don’t have to live in fear or feel alone because He never leaves us. This is the love of Jesus.
“And the Lord, He is the one that goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.
Deuteronomy 31:8 NKJV
The Gift Of Comfort Is Sent In Unexpected Ways
The Lord also wants to comfort us by building up a support system.
All of the people the Lord sent my way, many of whom were strangers to me at the time, confirmed He was there, hearing my prayers.
The following verse from the Book of Matthew is one of the first connections I had with the Lord. Soon after I read it, a woman from church came to the hospital to pray for my son, who was recovering from spinal cord surgery. She pulled me aside to tell me God had given her this verse for me – the very same verse I had placed in my heart weeks earlier.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 NKJV
That day, I knew the Lord was listening, and no matter what my son or I would face due to our physical disability, we were not going to have to carry the weight of it anymore. This gave me more comfort than I had ever experienced before. The anxiousness controlling me was starting to fall away.
The Gift Of Peace Will Surround You
Jesus is handing us His peace so we can face every situation with a sense of calm.
The peace of the Lord is empowering.
In situations that used to feel impossible, there is now possibility. When something feels too big to handle, I can breathe and still move ahead.
I discovered this peace as I let the Lord lead me, instead of my own feelings. I noticed myself saying yes to many things I never saw myself doing. Anxious or not, I can do this, I told myself. The Lord’s peace allowed me to take one step, and then another, and another.
Even now, when I feel anxiety, I still have peace because I know that feeling is only temporary. His peace, on the other hand, is constant. That is how you know that the calm you feel is from above.
The Lord’s peace will put you at ease no matter what you are facing.
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled; neither let it be afraid.”
John 14:27 NKJV
The Gift of Knowledge Changes Our Ways
While the Lord wants us to be filled with his love, comfort and peace, He also desires that we renew our mind and gain knowledge.
His Word does just that; it builds knowledge to change how we approach life.
In fact, He teaches us the tactics to use when walking into any situation.
Because of my struggle with anxiety, I became rather combative in conversations with my family, who I felt didn’t understand me or what I was going through.
Jesus corrected me by explaining "to start a conflict is to release a flood; stop the dispute before it happens," Proverbs 17:14 HCSB.
I have learned to soften my delivery in a difficult conversation.
The Lord also says “patience is better than power,” Proverbs 16:32 HCSB.
I try to truly listen first before responding.
The most powerful piece of wisdom the Lord teaches is to be aware of how we carry ourselves.
"A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones," Proverbs 17:22 HCSB.
I can arrive with joy instead of fear.
This is a different me.
This is Jesus.
Accept Jesus, His Love, Comfort, Peace and Knowledge
This journey with Jesus is one that has taught me so much about myself, the flaws in my thinking, and how to change my ways.
I wanted to share my struggle with anxiety and how the Lord is bringing me to a new place, because I know there are people reading this who do feel alone, with no comfort or peace. You feel as if today is too much.
Let me just say, Jesus truly loves you.
He does not leave us to figure it out alone.
Through these gifts, Jesus begins to make our hearts whole, providing a newness that allows for us to make progress, see the possibility for more, and arrive at a new place.
Again, God is saying, the place you stand now is not where you’ll always be. More is waiting for you.
For anyone reading this who wants to open their heart to Jesus, pray this prayer aloud and invite Jesus in.
This is an excellent blog. Thank you. I love the prayer for inner peace. This is an area that I need to work hard at each and every day.
